Angry Birds, LORDI, Sauna...

Good Evening everyone! How are you?

Another interesting week hast started, and this happend until now:

First I had to took a picture with an Angry Bird. Those Fins are really crazy about this Angry Birds,  so everyone of the exchange-students started to play Angry Birds( actually the Space-Version).

We all hope that we might understand the cultural part of it, but it is nowadays a great challenge, but we will try :)

@ Angry Birds Fun Park, Rovaniemi
On Wednesday there was a great party, so... expiring the angry birds part at night-------> check! [ Pictures as evidence can be found at my local camera, and only there,  also it was dark, and nobody would see us maybe :) ] But I will talk about Wednesday later.

Sebi und Nacho

In the afternoon,  I went with Nacho(his real name is Ignatio(i ll hope that this is the right spelling...sry nacho ) , a guy from Argentina, and with Sebi, a guy from Germany through the city of Rovaniemi.

All people in Rovaniemi are crazy about LORDI, the finnish Band who got famous after winning the Eurovision Song Contest with the song called "Hard Rock Hallelujah", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAh9NRGNhUU in the year of 2006.

LORDI got the status of a mystical god here in Finland. There is also a square named after the Band,  the LORDI Square.

their hands are really big!

Tomorrow, I ll be on a 2 days trip to the middle of Finland, and Sweden,  so there will be a greater update of my blog on Monday evening about:

- Sauna Time & Cold Lake
- the Party on Wednesday
- Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences
- the 2 days Trip

So stay fine!

Northern Lights, BBQ and Intercultural Communication

Intercultural Communication,  the magical word with such a great power and meaning.

Normally peoply would like to talk to each other about culture, their habbits, their lands, prejudices and stereotypes, or just about some everyday-life partying in combination with higher philosophical and political stuff.

In contrast, there is also another way to gettin to know each other,  yes you have just read it the right way.... of course i am meaning laughin together and lots of humour.

To maintain this and enable this amazing thing for some shy people,  let me introduce you to an very funny method of a shared room in one of the other houses:

usefull expressions for getting in touch with each other

On the wall you can see some may useless expressions for getting in touch with each other and skip the friendly and open-minded part of communication.

Later in the Evening, we went outside to the a near located hill to see some Northern Lights.
It was a very clear and cold sky outside,  after a few minutes everyone freezes,

overview of one part of Rovaniemi

But unluckily, the Northern Lights were not as open minded, they are a lot more shy :) So let s see if we can have more luck tonight. :)

Welcoming Party at Doris Nightclub

To drink before the Party get started" Liste.

Claudio, Henna & Mari ( Both are International Tutors from Rovaniemi)

Mercedes BETZ, Sauna...

Mercedes BETZ, Sauna, adapting to a new Culture & the Welcoming Party at Doris!

Source: http://plab.ramk.fi/weather/RAMK_logo.JPG

Also in Zukunft alle bitte mal die Augen offen halten nach einem Mercedes BETZ :)  This made my day!

Man ist also partytechnisch gut aufgehoben in Rovaniemi.

introduction of an introduction for an introduction

Introduction of an introduction for an introduction to get an Introduction...

Tuesday's Programm of the Orientation Week was about many Welcoming Words, and as the title assumes, lots of Introductions to the Library,International Relation Office,Cafeteria,Office for Study-affairs, Sportscenter,Computer rooms and all that stuff which belongs to it.

You just got overstacked with information.

After 7h, I left the University of Applied Sciences in Rovaniemi with some information packages and a head full of new names, places etc.[Pictures of the University are following ]

In Rovaniemi, mostly everyone travels to University with bike, so I just went to a second hand shop in the afternoon, and bought a really old and creepy bike(cost me 79 €, was one of the cheapest ones).

With the Mobility Update, it was quite easy to visit a known local market in Rovaniemi, LIDL, where you can atleast get a bag full of eating stuff for 20 €.

Wednesday's Programm was a more personally one. I got a meeting with the International Coordinator of my course of studies, Information Techology.

Bureaucrazy and Paperwork  stuff are pretty much the same in Rovaniemi. My Task was to do some changes in my Learning Agreement ( now getting started with Object orientated Programming in JAVA ), so I went to the International Relations Office, got a changing online form per mail,  moved back to the PC room, printed the mail with the changing form out, send a copy to the International Relations Office,  went back there and at least signed the new one... Took me about 1 hour, for a task, that normally can be done in 5 min, but this is Bureaucrazy :)

Luckily the Ladies of the International Relations Offices were very friendly, helped me with all the things and just greeted the University of Applied Sciences in Biberach..."We would like to get some more Exchange-Students from Germany,  so Mr. Tschätsch, pls feel fine and do some advertising and promotion :)" [ Wenn jemand von euch gerne nach Rovaniemi möchte...einfach nur Bescheid geben :) ]

I just didnt uploaded all my new pics from the camera, so I'll hope I can serve with some landscape pictures :)

Stay fine!

Mittlerweile wird man als Deutscher auf die typische Aussprache der nicht eigenen Landessprache Englisch angesprochen und die Herkunft allein vom Hören bestimmt[ "...it's just the way how the germans pronouning the words correct and clear as much as possible, so that everyone understand each single fuckin word.."(Thx to Iona, an Exchange-Student from the UK )
Mittlerweile hat sich mein Appartment gefüllt, aktuell wohnen 6 Studenten ( Luc from Northern Island, Andre from Ukraine,Chris and Bernard from Belgium and Sakuri from Slovakia) in einer Wohnung, die für 3 Studenten ausgelegt ist...

Summer's over?

Arrival at the Airport of Rovaniemi at 5.40 pm in the evening.

My personal tutor, Vesa, was catching me up, and took me to the "Downtown" of Rovaniemi, where I was given an Instruction of Best Places to be to do an awesome party.

Then we moved on to my appartment, which is about 5 km located outside of the Downtown. It contains 3 shared rooms and one big kitchen. total for 6 persons.

I am actually livin in a shared room with a friendly guy from Ukraine. In another shared room is a guy from the Northern Islands. Tomorrow is the official arrival day and I am excited wheter some other students are coming into this appartment.

On my first evening in Rovaniemi, I went together with 3 germans, 3 from the UK and 1 from Argentinia to a local Pub ( finnish name is following ). It was quite an interesting evening, getting to know each other and the cultures...

The local weather here in Rovaniemi is quite friendly, about 10 °C, clear sky with a shining sun, but the Darkness is coming...

The finnish people are very friendly and always ready to help,  if you ask :)

On the next day, my tutor vesa catcched me up and took me and some of his friends to a shopping tour through Rovaniemi,  buying some forks, knives, plates, pillows, blanket and all some other creepy stuff.

In the afternoon, I went around the appartments with Ignatio(the guy from Argentinia ).
We get in contact with some exchange students from Parkistan, Spain, France, the Netherlands,Austria,Hungary and India. It was quite funny to see all those cultures are clashing together.

As I mentioned, tomorrow is the official day of arrival, so I better get some sleep [UTC + 2.00h] to manage all the official paperwork in the town at the office.
