Metal/Rock-Music increases Productivity

Metal and Rock Music increases Productivity

First of all I would like to thank my Rakas, Henna-Emilia for the nice post :)
It was a total surprise for me to open my blog in the morning and read the new post.

At the moment, I am working independently on a project to calculate/measure the load of snow or ice on a roof of as building and its impacts on the building. My task is to develop and built an easy-to-use connection for a Compressed Loading Cell ( it is a weight-sensor).
Later on, it should be possible to directly access the measurements on a Laptop.

This day, I was pretending to work on my current project in the laboratory...

trying to test the Compression Loading Cell

But unfortunately I didn t get the expected results, so I was trying out some configurations and settings, and it took a long time to wait to exceed the settings.

So I tried to resolder some connections in the Electronical Laboratory of the University.
As it is usual in a laboratory, chaos and complexity rules a laboratory. Everyone tries atleast to keep a little order...good luck with that in Finland.

"We are here not in Germany Claudio, so don't try to order things..."(said by one of my professors)

Normally, it is good to have a quiet room to structure your thoughts and mind on the project...

my first draft :)
But in some cases, according to one of my professor, "HEAVY METAL AND HARD ROCK MUSIC" increases productivity permantly up to 10-20 %"... and "let's see if the finnish radio here can play some Rammstein, then it will be additionally + 5 % " ( said by one of my professors)

I was improving my solution and developing it over almost 2 weeks, until I finally make it work.
Sometimes, it can cost s a lot of self-control to finally find a solution for technical problems, but when you find it, you feel very good :)

After testing my draft, it was time to change the lab to collect all the measurement data.

collecting the lab data

After spending a lot of time in buildings and in front of laptops, you maybe sometimes forget to realize how good it is to see finland's nature:

The day with Claudio

Hello!

My name is Henna-Emilia and many of the readers might know me already. Some months ago Claudio promised me that one day I can make a post to his blog. There would be so many different things that I could write about him but finally I decided to tell about how are the days here with him.

As many you might know, most of the days go totally just walking to school, being in the laboratory, walking again, being in the apartment few minutes, sometimes even have time for a gym, walking again in the my place and studying more. But when the weekends come there are always something special happening and couple weeks ago it was a surprise evening for me.

The day started with sleeping long and just hanging out in my apartment in center Rovaniemi. My dad called me and invited us to have some lunch in the Chinese restaurant. It was really nice to hear them trying to speak German to each other – and even a bit Finnish included in the conversations.

Claudio had prepared some white wine and honey melon ice-cream for dessert and after a few hours resting it was time to go again. I had my eyes closed the whole journey to our destination because it was supposed to be a surprise for me. We ended up to Café & Bar 21 with Mari and Eero to drink some cocktails. The evening went fast and the whole day was amazing, hopefully we will do it again soon.

I can’t thank Claudio enough for having always time for things like that even when he is totally busy!

With Love,

Henna

Nacho in Germany :)

As you may have followed my older posts,  I was back in Germany over Christmas Time, New Year's Eve and the first week of January.
It was a very strange feeling to be back HOME, meeting all the friends, family and relatives.
But this time, there was one special guest.

In this post, I would like to report about a time, when a guy from Argentinia made a sight-seeing tour in Germany...I think you all remember maybe this guy?

Mr I.E.Hutin himself, in front of the "Ulmer Münster"
Welcome to Germany Nacho!
Why traveling back from Rovaniemi to Argentinia, when you have the possibility to visit your friends in Germany? It all started with a spontanious idea, ok guys..."What are we doing tonight?..." :D

And then, hey, why not visit Germany for a few days. Said and done...

Schloßplatz in Stuttgart

Our first step on a long to-do-in-Germany-list, was to visit the city of Stuttgart.

Schloßplatz

It was actually a sunny day for the 26th of December :)

It was in some kind of weird, to discover your own known city through the eyes of a tourist :)

Stuttgart, near Paulinenstraße

On our second day, we went to the city of Karlsruhe..unfortunately the weather was not that best.
And as a good method to proove, that Nacho was behaving like a asian photographer, you should not miss that:

in Karlsruhe

The next stage on our trip was Augsburg, and then Munich. We took the train(Thank you for traveling with the "Deutsche Bahn") to Augsburg, over Stuttgart...and Ulm(one of my cooperative studies universities).

in Ulm
We only had 30 min time to change our trains in Ulm, so we decided to make a short sight seeing tour through Ulm, Ulmer Münser, city centre,  "das schiefe Haus" and back again to the train.

das schiefe Haus in Ulm

a few hours later, we finally arrived in Augsburg, to meet Sebastian and Anna...

Nacho(not from Japan), Sebi and Anna
... who were our guides through the city of Augsburg.

in Augsburg

And of course, in the country with the best-brewed beer in the world, Germany, it is compulsory to taste some really good german beer...

Of course it was not the only beer we drank this evening, accomodated at a friends house(Lisa from Augsburg).

Sebastian, Nacho and Me
It was a very nice evening,  and a short night.
On our next and final destination for Nacho's trip in Germany, we went to Munich.

old olympic stadium in Munich
It was one of Nacho's terms/conditions when he was telling us about coming to Germany..."guys, you can do whatever you want with me, we can visit whatever you are showing me,...but I want to see the olympic stadium in Munich!"

After a long day with lots of sight seeing in Munich, we finally went to the "Hofbräu-haus" in Munich, where Nacho made one of the most typical german experiences...

Nacho and "1l Beer"
Thanks for the visit Nacho, and we see each other again in Argentinia, when Sebi and I will visit you there. And then we are the ones, who are completely surrounded and lost by Argentinians, and spanish speaking people :)

And then it is time to say:"Sprich kein Deutsch, Ja :) "

Nacho...alias I.E.Hutin...I wish you all the best my friend!

Nacho...in Munich

spanish-speaking, and dinner!

One easy way, to get connected to different cultures and people, is always to have a common meal together. It is always interesting and exciting for me to see, how different people prepare their meals, cooking, or just eat.

As a small get together event, I invited some of my friends and new students to my appartment, to have small dinner together.

With beer from the small brother from Germany, Austria :), which tasted very good, but not as excellent and not competitive to german beer, and with some ethopian spices, we prepared some salade, chillis and of course my "Pizza-baugettes" could not miss,.

All in all it was a very nice evening, on which we had the spontanious idea, to continue celebrating in one of Rovaniemi's club "TIVOLI".

The only good thing about tivoli is, that on Wednesday, you can get a 0,33l beer for 1,80. But don t ask for the taste.
And here it is a good idea, to introduce you my new roommate "Ruben", who belongs to a spanish-speaking city which is located in the north of Marokko.

Assis(Marokko), Me(Germany) and Ruben(Marokko)

Ruben's English is not his best strength, but we are both working on it. He always asks me how to use the basic grammar, and if he uses the words in the correct tenses and ways.
He is a very nice and friendly guy, it is very harmoniuos and funny in our flat, but sometimes it is a little bit anoying when you can not speak too much together...but it is on a good way :)

Getting started & Rovaniemi-Sunset

Hey :)

How fast can the time run? The first two weeks are over already now. They were essentially marked with lots of paperwork, organizing appointments, welcoming parties, buying and shopping basic things to live, and lots of other things :)

The coldness is still the leading key to arrange your everyday life. It is very interesting how humanity can be dependent of the influences of weather conditions.

It is unthinkable to get out with any gloves, hats, scarves and for sure long underwear and warm shoes.

On Friday, there was the first "get-together-bonfire-evening-event" :) The Idea was to sit around a bonfire, eat some "Makkara" and have some nice talks to get to know each other :)

finnish "Makkara" - not competeable against german saucages :D

It was a very nice atmosphere, darkness, cold, snow, and a huge BBQ :)

Of course there should not be any funny group task missing...

The bonfire place is in the forest nearly located to "Kuntotie", the place where all the Exchange-Students are accomodated. It implies also the possibility to go up to a tower and have an amazing view about the nightlife of Rovaniemi.

I finally started my practical training on last monday, at 8 am...
trying out sebi's bike, cause mine was broken this day

German punctuality at its best :)!

I got my accesscard in the morning, and my supervisor let me wait around almost three hours in the laboratory...
So I decided to prepare the working area and tidy up the place to enable a successfull start within my training :)

It is a FPGA-Chip, in a combination with a PLC(Programmle Logic Controller = SPS = Speicherprogrammierbare Steuerung), which unfortunately was running with a Windows 98 System...and after a view tryouts not really working in combination with the PLC.

But later more on to my practical Training.
The first two weeks were very interesting and excititing for me.
Of course we continued with our regular cooking meetings, starting in my appartment...

So stay tuned for the next update comin in a few days about the international regularly eatings with my friends, also a small report about my first works in the laboratory and the finnish directness :)

There and back again...

There and back again - Rovaniemi  - an (un-)expected Journey

Yes you have read it correctly, I am back in town in Rovaniemi.
I will be staying in Rovaniemi until the end of May. As you may now, I am taking part in a scholarship of Biberach University of Applied Sciences, to do an international degree ( Bachelor International of Engineering ). It requires to study first abroad(that is the content of my blog so far) and then doing your practical internship abroad.

I applied for lots of companies here all over in Finland, but it is very difficult to find a job without the ability to speak finnish. So I tried to get a placement in the RAMK-University. To specify, I got a placement in the relating Renewable Energy Laboratory - RELab.

Thats also a reason why I am back in Rovaniemi :)

It was very early in the morning, but Mum+Papz drove me to the airport :)

Mum+Papz

My journey plan:

2.00: Departure in Lienzingen
4.30: Arrival in Frankfurt(Hahn)-Airport
6.30: Get into the plane - flying
11.00: Arrival in Tampere-Airport(Finland)
12.00: Train to Rovaniemi
19.59: Arrival in Rovaniemi(Train station)

I flew with Ryainair, cheap but that s all about it what I have to mention.
The train took me 8h of travel, but luckily with a power plug, so I could watch some series, worked a little bit and of course also sleeping.
I also had a nice talk with an mechanical engineering professor, who teaches in Oulu about studying abroad and the finnish mentality. I was quite surprised, because he was very talkative, which is not usual for a Finn.

As a placement student, the University provided me with a free taxi and luckage service, to pick me up to my new appartment in Kuntotie.

view from my new appartment

Micky was so kind and helped me to move into my new appartment :) [ Thanks Nacho for the couch and all that stuff, and also thanks to everybody else who gave me some things to start with :) ]

In Rovaniemi it is about -18 °C, the weather is snowy, white and a little bit cloudy. Everyday I got around 6-10 min more light, so nothin to complain about :)

And with the care package of my friends

and some good memories of the "Gedächtnis-Pitcher - Beam Cola" in the Irish Pub in Pforzheim

Stephan & David - Thanks for destroying me completely with alcohol :D
I think I can mangage the new situation quite well.

I also already met some of the students tutors,  good to see you guys again!

Yesterday, on Wednesday, I had a meeting with one of the International Head of the School of Technology Department at the University

...checking if I have sent all my documents(Yes I did that already in the end of November) and having a little bit small talk about the placement, I finally got an appointment on Friday in the morning, to meet the related professor and maybe then also start to work?

Let's see...
And I can offer you a lot of snow, so if somebody is interested in an exchange,  snow for light? I am in :)
But take a look for your self :)

So stay tuned and wait for the next update :)
I ll hope I can manage it to do my placement serious and not behave like a typical exchange student... :)
